Once you are ready to buy flat panel TV, you will have to decide which technology to go with. Both Plasma TV and LCD TV technologies continue to improve, so it is hard to tell which one is better.
Here are some points to consider, before you make the purchase.
1. Screen Size
Both LCD and plasma screens are available in bigger sizes. Average plasma TV screen measure from 32 inches to 65 inches, and LCD TV from 13 inches to 65 inches. Larger plasma TV, with screens over 100 inches will be available very soon. LCD TV manufacturers are also working on bigger screens. By the end of this year Sharp plan to introduce 108 inch LCD TV.
2. Black Levels and Contrast
Black levels add contrast are better on plasma screen. When viewing LCD from axis, black levels will drop substantially. For watching DVDs with many light and dark scenes shown at the same time, plasma TV will outperform LCD TV.
3. Screen Refresh Rate
Plasma screen refresh better than LCD TV, but difference is so small, it is very hard to detect any motion response lag. Some LCD TVs are now available with refresh time as low as 5ms.
4.Color Accuracy
Colors in plasma screen are warmer, richer and look more natural. Plasma TV prevails in normal condition, without ambient lighting. Because LCD screen reflect very little light and high brightness of the picture, they are ideal for watching in brightly lit rooms.
